Our story

A small nursery on the edge of the blackland prairie

Natural Hills Farm sits in Trenton, Texas, where the blackland prairie starts giving way to post oak savannah. We started with native plants because so much of what gets sold as landscape material isn't built for this ground — heavy clay, long dry stretches, and heat that runs from May into October. Natives are still the heart of what we grow, alongside a selected range of well-adapted plants that have proven themselves here.

We propagate a great deal of what we sell right here, and we work with wholesale growers we trust to widen what we can offer. Either way the standard is the same: healthy, well-rooted plants we'd be glad to put in our own ground.

Our standards

We collect seed and take cuttings from regional stock wherever we can, so the plants we grow carry genetics adapted to North Texas. They're grown outdoors, hardened off naturally, and sold when they're rooted and ready — not forced into bloom for a sales floor. We'd rather pass on weak stock than sell it.

Honest advice, plant by plant

No plant suits every yard. We'll tell you straight when something needs sharp drainage, a little afternoon shade, extra water while it gets established, or room to spread — and point you to something better if your spot isn't a fit. We don't ship, and we don't carry seasonal annual color.
